Not under my Roof

of the house. The tippy top. The housetop. The word "roof" in the Greek is (stegē). Like a "thatch" or "deck" of a building. A house.

Jesus, during his ministry spent many times in houses. He also witnessed the opening up of someone's home from the top down, meaning the (stegē) or roof. When Jesus came under someone's roof (home), he came with a purpose.

He could see the need under that roof that no one else could see. His visits emphasized his loving care of the family unit. His teaching, healing, and fellowship, was to connect with those on a deep personal level.

When Jesus entered under someone's roof, lives were always impacted by his loving approach. Here are some under your roof homework assignments for the members of "Try Jesus" ministry. Locate the following homes in the Bible.

After locating where the individuals’ names, please read the passages aloud into your spirit, family, or study group. After you've finished the passages, pray over your home. God loves families, amen?

Also, tell me what took place under these roofs?

1) The house of Mary and Martha.
2) The house of Simon the Leper.
3) Peter's house.
4) The wedding in Cana.
5) The house of Jairus.
6) The house of Zacchaeus.
7) The House of Matthew.

Bonus points: Name me the person and the passage whom Jesus did not have to enter under his roof, but the same results happened as those above? Easy, right?

Have you ever had a guest in your home that people couldn't wait to see? Before I became an authentic born-again believer (during my mid-teen years), I was excited about my older brother’s house parties that took place.

The word would spread around the communities. I believe it was invitation only and cost to get in. Of course, being younger and living under the same roof as my brother, I never had to pay. I was just curious about those who showed up.

Many times, the living room and dining rooms were filled with some standing elbow to elbow against the wall. The upstairs were off limits to the guest. I really didn't care. I was excited about one person possibly coming in.

That's similar to how things took place when Jesus showed up and entered the house of those he loved. People came from everywhere. This took place in (Mark 2:1-12). Please read these verses slowly and focus on Jesus.

Like my brother’s house parties, Jesus is teaching to a full house. Just like my brother’s house parties, these people came from all over. They came from Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. A paralyzed man shows up.

When I think back about my brothers’ parties, I can't recall if anyone ever showed up in a wheelchair. My home was not wheelchair accessible. But I can recall people showing up with cast and ankle problems from playing sports.

They weren't going to allow their injuries to keep them from the party and meeting males and females. If my brother knew them as friends, he would help come into the house. Dancing was one reason they came.

The paralyzed man could not get in the house where Jesus was because of the crowds that blocked the front door. Imagine if tailgate parties were so big that they blocked entrance into football stadiums? What would the people do?

Would they try to find an alternate way into the football stadium? Maybe they might try to sneak in the players’ only entrance. But with Jesus in the house, the paralyzed man's four friends thought of how they would get him to Jesus.

Because everyone was focused on Jesus, it seems no one cared about the roof that was soon to broken up so the paralyzed man's friends could get him into the house.

Wow! Imagine if someone had broken up your roof to get into your home to see someone famous? There have been stories of people being injured or maybe trampled on because they wanted to see that famous individual.

However, these famous stars cannot give anything compared to what Jesus offers us through his healing power. Did you know Jesus brings power under every roof he is invited into? It is the power of God unto salvation (John 1:12).

This is the only power (Greater than your home electrical utilities), that can deliver you from sin, physical ailments, and guilt (shame). Sin can immobilize and paralyze our minds and bodies. The devil comes to destroy them. John 10:10

The paralyzed man had some amazing friends. How many of you would risk your property by lovingly helping someone you cared for? Did you know sometimes friends are more loving than family members?

Where was this guy’s family? I remember asking why all the adult Sunday school class the question, "Tell me why you are happy to be in God's house?" One lady raised her hand, but she had tears in her eyes.

As her voice continued to break up, she said she was happy to be here because being at home with her husband was like being in prison. As she cried it caught me off guard a bit. After the class I suggested we pray for her.

We prayed that Jesus would visit her home and change the dynamics and situation she faced each day. Yes, she was a believer but had given up on Jesus visiting her home. Her husband tried to get her to see other couples.

We contained to pray that the devil who came to break down the home would be kicked out so God could enter the home and work on the heart of her husband. Not too long (6 months), I think, her husband came under the roof of God.

Listen beloved, the power of God is greater than any power on earth. The paralyzed man's friend did not care about coming from the top to bring their friend to Jesus. God comes from the top for us, right? (John 6:38-40; Luke 19:10).

Here are other passages of the Lord coming down to save his lost people. (1 John 3:8;  1 Timothy 1:15; 3:16;  Isaiah 35:4-5; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18; Hebrews 9:28). No rooftop will prevent Jesus from gathering his saved children.

🗣📢 Last words: Question. "Do you think the paralyzed man would have gotten healed if his friends would have come in like criminals to steal the crowd’s money? I realize that sounds a bit silly, but what if their attitude was about them and not their friend?

The story said Jesus saw their faith (verse 5). They sincerely wanted their friend to be healed by Jesus. They knew he could do it. They took the risk of mishandling their friend or possibly hurting him.

But Jesus did them one better. He not only healed the man but forgave his sins (verse 5). The prominent Jewish religious leaders and political groups called Jesus a blasphemer for saying he could forgive sins (verse 7).

But what they failed to believe and understand 8s that Jesus is God in the flesh. He is God in three persons. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. He is the same God, yesterday, today, and forever. (John 14:8-9; John 1:1-3, 14; 10:30-39; Colossians 1:12-21).

This power living passages tell us that God through Jesus has power to forgive sin and also power to heal us. Yes, even under your own roof. (Mark 2:9-12). Are you ready to give him the invitation? Do you doubt his power?

Did you know there are many churches who don't believe God heals anymore. They dismiss the spiritual gifts in (1 Corinthians 12 and 14). It's not a mistake that the love chapter (13) sits in between them.

Why would God stop healing if he's the same yesterday, today, and forever? Many countless people today have the same belief system in the hearts as those in (Mark 13:58; 16:12-14). Jesus is the power that makes us whole.

When you invite Jesus under your roof with love, kindness, and generosity, he pours out his blessings on your home. God desires to play an active role in your home. He desires to be in the center of your home.

He offers to be not only the architect of your home, but also the builder. (Psalm 127:1-5). With God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit in your home, you don't have to fear what man (the world can do to you). (Proverbs 18:10).

When you pray in your home, it brings the sweetness of God's presence around all those who may be under your roof. Even if you're alone, Jesus desires to come in and live with you. (Revelation 3:20).

God brings wisdom and understanding to your heart and mind. Once you allow Jesus to take up residence in your home, he secures that love between you and him for all eternity. This includes our children, whom we pray over daily.

Our children are beautiful, wonderful gifts from God. From the womb to the tomb, he has lovingly created them and given them gifts and talents to honor God with. Do you love your special gifts?

Godly parents build roof covering loving homes by sharing God’s word with their children. Godly parents build godly homes through prayer. Godly parents build godly homes through worship. Godly parents are not perfect.

But they commit themselves to following Jesus no matter how many times they might blow it as parents. No parent home is perfectly run. If it were, you wouldn't need Jesus in it. But true Christian families strive to follow God.

Godly parents should make living examples of influencing their children to follow Jesus under your roof. Is it a guarantee that they will follow after Jesus, no. But parents are just required to teach them and lineage the results to God.

We can only follow God faithfully under our rooftops by keeping the Bible in our homes and following its instructions and continually kicking the devil out when he tries to invade it, amen? Remember beloved, seek God first.

Remember beloved, the enemy will try to sneak in under your roof or come in through some spiritual breach you left unattended. He will also use other unsaved family members with strong influential temptations.

That’s what took place under Lots roof in (Genesis 19:1-16). Prayer is the glue covered substance along with the armor of God that helps keep the presence of God defeating the enemy and keeping peace in your heart. Stand strong!

Just as Jesus went into the mountains to pray over his decisions, we too should seek God for guidance under our roof in our prayer closet for spiritual discernment for ourselves and family.

Jesus uses the roof as a metaphor for declaring truths openly to the world, stating, "What is whispered in your ear, proclaim from the housetops." (Matthew 10:27). Did you know Jesus has gone to prepare a house for us?

His spiritually born-again believers will not just have a house and roof that decays and needs constant care, he's giving us mansions to live in inside his house with many rooms. (John 14:1-4). God's glory is our rooftop. Luke 12:51-53

No house can sustain itself without its strong foundation, constructed walls, and protected roof. Just as no home can stand if it is divided. (Luke11:16-26; Romans 8:31-39; 1 Peter 2:5-9; 1 Corinthians 3:9-17).

God’s blessing comes to a home where he is present. This means putting nothing ahead of him, internalizing and living out his values, and submitting to his leadership.

Love is the foundation of a godly home. It helps our homes reflect God’s character when family members forgive one another. Living according to God’s wisdom brings joy under any roof.

[A city without God will crumble from evil and corruption on the inside. Don’t make the mistake of leaving God out of your home and your life. If you do, all your accomplishments will be futile. Keep God as your highest priority.]

As high as your rooftop stands, look up and sanctify your home and allow him to do the building. When Jesus comes in the home, he wants to start construction on the inside to the outside. What a great contractor we have in Jesus!

🛐 Here’s a prayer you can pray to allow God to begin reconstruction from the top down. "Heavenly Father, we thank you for coming to fix your broken living vessels. Your spiritual dimensions to fix us is lovingly simple.

When we turn from sin (repent), and turn to surrender our lives to your Lordship, we you immediately get to work on spiritually building us on your foundation. You know best, Oh Lord!

You also fill us from the top, just as you filled the one hundred and twenty with tongues of fire on the top of the heads on Pentecost. The Holy Spirit works on and in us whose names are written in your book of life.

Father, sometimes it seems our spiritual house has had a work stoppage. If so, we know we are the ones who have quenched the Holy Spirit’s working power in our lives. Lord, please continue to chisel us according to your purpose.

May your building plan for our lives be a living building that is set on fire by your glorious power without burning us to useless ashes as those in the world have only separation awaiting them. Lord, may we reflect you.

Father, may we be fashioned to resemble your Son after your hands finish constructing us into your amazing, glorious image. Thank you look for placing your complete armor on us, in your capable hands we pray, Amen."
