Thirsty enough to live

WATER FILLED.png

to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. 8} (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)

9} Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

10} Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

11} The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

12} Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? 13} Jesus answered and said unto her,
Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

14} But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

15} The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw." (John 4:7-15 KJV). Notice again, how the woman at the well compares to the beginning imaginative story I shared earlier.

She had the creator of the water, (who even walked on it) standing right next to her at the well. And in her renewed understanding after hearing the living water offered, she left the bucket of water she came for.

And still today, many people are thirsting for vices they think will quench their daily living. Did you know there is nothing to drink in hell? Yes, there is a lake of fire, but it cannot quench the fires that burn.

The only way our thirst for life can be relieved, is by the word of God. His word cleanses us from the dry dead old ways of sin. (Hebrews 13:12; John 17:17; Titus 3:5). When our sins are washed away, we gain eternal life with all its treasures.

You can see this washing example in the book of Ezekiel. This is an internal washing and filling. Please read these words into your spirit if you are tired of the sinful "Pig-Pen" way of life, who was famous for being perpetually covered in dust and dirt.

23} "And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen, which ye have profaned in the midst of them; and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD, saith the Lord GOD, when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes.

24} For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.

25} Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

26} A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

27} And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them." (Ezekiel 36:23-27 KJV).

Anytime you see the word "regeneration," it is making reference to the inward work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit removes the "Pig-Pin" internal undrinkable water the world offers us. I wonder how often "Pig-Pen" was thirsty. The Spirit brings the "new birth."

God wants us to come to him so his Spirit can satisfy us (our thirst). (Revelation 22:17; Matthew 3:11-12; 2 Kings 2:19-22; Psalm 105:40-41). When we turn to the Lord in repentance, our thirst is directed towards him.

🗣📢 Last words: Today, you can have your sins washed away, receive a new heart for God, and have the Spirit within you. Have you stubbornly resisted his love and leading? The Holy Spirit can make you tender and receptive to him.

No one likes to drink dirty water. Clean Water is vital to regulate body temperature, flush toxins, and keep organs functioning. You can only live approximately two months without water.

Why try to patch up your old life when you can have a new one? Although it's an alcohol commercial, the words "Stay thirsty my friends" is better suited towards Jesus than the liver. How about a drink from him?

Let's look at today's recap of our main text.

A) The condition for the river:

We should acknowledge our dehydration. Why so? Because you cannot receive the satisfaction of Christ until you admit the emptiness of the world. The invitation is exclusively for anyone who thirst.

In a culture of digital intoxication, we try to numb our spiritual thirst with social media validation, career ambition, consumerism, (Holidays are coming), and relationship dependencies. We mistake being busy for being full.

We must stop pretending we are fine and admit that our souls are spiritually dehydrated. (Jeremiah 2:13; Isaiah 55:1-7). Admitting that we are thirsty is the essential first step, but simply acknowledging your dehydration won't save your life.

You have to know where to go to find relief. Which leads us to the source of the stream.

B) The connection to the River:

Drinking from the true source. Jesus does not point to a system, a ritual, or a set of rules; He points entirely to himself. To "drink" means to actively place your personal trust, reliance, and faith in Jesus alone.

Going to church, knowing theology, or living a moral life is like standing next to the fountain without drinking. Believing in Jesus isn't just intellectual agreement; it is an active internalization. It means running to him daily through prayer.

It means abiding in his word and relying on his grace instead of your own performance. Did you grasp that? Let go and let God! (John 4:14; Psalm 42:1-2). Stop trying to dig your own wells and truly drink from the Savior.

When you drink from him, something supernatural happens. The water doesn't just pool up inside you to keep you comfortable; it transforms you into a distribution center for a thirsty world.

C) The consequences of the river:

From internal satisfaction to outward overflow. The Holy Spirit does not just fill a believer to a point of static containment; he creates a dynamic, continuous overflow. Living water flows out of your innermost being to impact others.

A true authentic born-again believing Christian who is truly filled with the Holy Spirit cannot remain self-absorbed. The joy, peace, grace, and truth you receive from Jesus should naturally spill over into your family, and your workplace.

It moves the church from their four walled comfort zone, out into the community. You then become a refreshing presence in a toxic, dry environment, bringing life wherever you go. (Acts 1:8; Galatians 5:22-23).

Beloved, Jesus is the only one for you, your household, your community, who makes streams flow in the wilderness of life. His water never runs dry for the thirsty of heart. Let me repeat that. His spiritual water never runs dry.

"Stop surviving on the stale droplets of this world's approval. The Invitation still stands tonight: Step out of the desert of your own strength, come to the Source, and let the river run through you. Stay in the thirst mode for Jesus! Drink, Drink, Drink!"

🛐 Here’s a prayer you can pray to satisfy that thirst. "Heavenly Father, thank you for today's message. Sometimes the well in my life runs on empty. It seems the dry well follows me through church, prayer, and programs.

But Lord, you are more important than all the works I could do in a lifetime. Jesus, you alone are the creator of the streams and the sustainer of my soul. I come before you today, acknowledging of my heart apart from you.

Forgive me (us) Lord, the times I (we) have tried to quench our eternal thirst with temporary things. Forgive me Lord, for digging broken cisterns that leave me empty, exhausted, and dry. Lord, I hear your invitation echoing today.

I hear your prompt response moving across the centuries today. I confess my thirst for you right now. I'm tired of playing fake church. I want to know you in a real way. Right now, by faith, I come to you and I drink!

Open my heart completely to the cleansing, refreshing, life-giving power of your presence. Holy Spirit, fill me to overflowing. Do not let me be stagnant pools of religion, but make me rushing rivers of your love, joy, and grace.

Let my life be a refreshing spring to every parched soul I encounter this week. Lord, I'm stepping out of the desert and into your abundance today. In the mighty, matchless name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen."
